Two Week Summer Programs 2023

Welcome!!

Currently, these programs are completed for the 2023 summer, but check back with us to see what we will be planning for next year.

It is such a pleasure to be able to offer this opportunity for local preschool age children! Thank you for your interest in outdoor early education. Please follow us on Facebook to keep up with any changes.

Give your pre-K child a wonderful two weeks in the woods playing, learning and growing! Little Schoolhouse in the Woods is offering four two-week programs for early childhood (toilet proficient, ages 3 to 6 years old) for summer 2023! This program is made available through Adams Legacy Foundation grant and does not cost the participants anything.

Who we are:

This a play based, nature immersed program giving children ample opportunities to play and explore in nature. Little Schoolhouse in the Wood is a non-profit outdoor early education program located in Westwood, Cincinnati, Ohio on two acres of private property surrounded by Mt. Airy Forest. We have been getting kids outside since 2012! This micro-school offers a wonderful space for your child to connect to their peers while playing in a beautiful natural space.

Dates

Each program will last two weeks, Monday through Friday, 8am until 3pm. We will be closed July 3-7. Dates are as follows:

Program A. June 12-June 23 (Mon-Fri, 8am-3pm )

Program B. June 26-30 & July 10-14(Mon-Fri, 8am-3pm, NO CAMP July 3- 7)

Program C. July 17th – 28th ( Monday through Friday, 8 -3 )

Program D. July 31st through August 11th ( Monday through Friday, 8 -3 )

We will be mostly outdoors:

Children are encouraged to explore and play in the mud, sand and creeks. We have a wonderful outdoor play space on private property, with access to Mt. Airy Forest trails. We love to hike! We don’t have to go too far to find a spot to snack and play, but leaving the school grounds will be a part of the routine. Children will have plenty of time to play on the school grounds, as well as out in the woods.

…but there is indoor space, too!

We have access to our one room schoolhouse in addition to an air conditioned house with a restroom. Each afternoon, children will be offered indoor rest time. There are ample toys and indoor play space in case of severe heat and/or weather.

The best part…this is FREE!

There are limited spaces available and the program doesn’t cost anything for participants, so please register soon!

These programs have limited availability. Follow us on Facebook to keep up with any changes.

How we are able to do this:

We are the fortunate recipients of an Adam’s Legacy Foundation grant which enables us to pay for employees and the cost of the program. This generous grant allows us to serve local kids who may not otherwise have the opportunity to play and learn and grow while being in a beautiful outdoor natural setting. This also helps connect children to their neighborhood environment, sharing the gift of this wonderful green space in their own neighborhood. Place based education is an important aspect of building strong communities and we hope that local families become aware of this wonderful asset. We believe all children deserve to have this opportunity and are so grateful to facilitate these programs. In addition, we always accept donations and are grateful to everyone who supports our mission “to foster a love of nature and to guide children toward healthy relationships with themselves and others.” If you would like to help us with our mission, please donate here:
